Boys in Crop tops…

So summer is approaching and usually this is a season where women ‘bare it all’ but now with our, ‘DIY Vintage fashion’ guys are starting to be more daring with their outfits and are starting to adopt fashion trends that girls usually follow!

We are seeing more colour in mens clothing, more embroidery and decorative fashion, some even opt to just wearing female clothing all together!

So it’s becoming more and more mainstream for guys to dress more adventurous, but something that is starting to make an appearance is crop tops!!

I myself have always wanted to walk around in a crop top day after day but have never felt confident enough to do so, but now that I’m starting to be more myself and I’m starting to care less and less about the opinions of others I’ve decided to try it out momentarily.

Men in crop tops isn’t a new thing as most of us will know, this is something that has been around since before the 90s and most of us will remember things like Will Smith in Fresh Prince wearing crop tops to play ball or around the house.

Men in crop tops is also something that we have seen in ‘High Fashion’ in shows such as the Calvin Klein Collection Spring/Summer 2011 Menswear Collection (above) and in an Astrid Anderson show (below), where the looks were more ‘extreme’

Hopefully we will see more and more of this!!! Show off that sexy mid-drift!!!

Becoming a designer…

Hey! So I’ve finally started to make my garment!!

It was really fun to mess around with a fabric I had never worked with/used before (tulle), I chose to do this because I keep finding myself being inspired by ballet imagery and dancers.

Fashion design is completely new to me and I have no idea what I’m doing but strangely enough I’m not filled with fear and doubt the way I was when I started my foundation, when I’m zoned in pinning the fabric and dragging it around I feel like my whole self and I feel like this is who I am as a person and what I’m meant to be doing…

I started with a “structure” I made using my leftover calico from a previous project and I feel that this in turn inspired the tulle version, the original idea I had was to make a cute Channel / Audrey Hepburn inspired tulip skirt, but I made something a lot more energetic and “angry”!

I wanted the woman who wore it to look beautiful and “pretty” but still powerful and assertive, and I checked to see if I achieved this by asking people what their opinion would be if they saw a woman wearing it and to my surprise they all said things around the same line!

Fashion design is truly where I shine and feel comfortable/confident, and I will hopefully just get better and better…

Monochromatic simplicity…

So I recently cut my hair! In a slightly different way than I’m used to, I’m enjoying being a bit more daring and it has given me a new sort of confidence, I feel more comfortable making big decisions and being ambitious, its funny how much power a little hair cut can have!

Since I’ve been focused on my Instagram and making sure its looking right, I’ve extended that to myself (hence the haircut) I’ve decided that no matter what you won’t find me half way dressed or ill represented, I want to treat each individual day like its fashion week! I slay all day err day!

This is quite a simple one but I feel with the new hair less definitely is more, even though I’m literally only wearing one color (black), the outfit is well put together and I look sharp yet comfortable and casual!

Re-starting the monochrome theme…

Hey guys!

I know it’s been a while but I am planning on getting back to this blog on a weekly basis!! I have recently learnt (once more) that I really can’t handle not having things to do, and I only work well when working under pressure or when I’m doing 3 projects at once!

So even though this may sound a bit mundane I have started to focus on my Instagram again! With fashion week coming up in less than a month I really need to make sure it accurately represents me as a person and honestly it was looking neglected and messy!

So the easiest way to clean your feed up and organize it is to strip it back! I try to have some pictures that are close up and others that are more distant and have more empty space in them, but the most important factor is that they all follow the same color scheme.

Every picture I post has an element of black or white, the reason for doing this is because no matter what I post as long as I have at least one of the colors in the picture, it will match the rest, because the worst thing is when you take amazing pictures but when you add it to your feed it looks messy and not as great!

Here are a few examples of what I’ve posted!!

Outfit of the day: Casually sophisticated…

I really enjoyed this quick simple, last minute outfit!

The top I had bought the previous day, and I liked how it was casual but still somewhat structured so that I still looked clean and polished. I went for this green color because I usually tend to go safe and stick to the blacks, greys and navy blues, but I thought getting the green one would give it a little twist. Especially since it’s obviously on trend as I keep seeing it everywhere in stores.

This outfit was simple yet affective because it gave me presence without it being over the top and “LOOK AT ME!!” ish. I felt it let me be playful and casual but at the same time I could switch and take on a more serious tone and get to business.
